The tapered shape of the lampshade and the carefully calculated fitter recess (also called fitter drop)—the distance between the shade’s top diameter/top edge and the centre of the central lamp-holder/fitter ring—are designed so that, once mounted, the lampshade structure covers and conceals the lamp holder/socket from view. Please refer to the attached Image A for a precise visual reference.
